We are soon to approach one of the best times of the year – spring! We all have heard of spring cleaning and it’s a great time for cleaning, re-organizing, and repairing your house from the freezing winter months. We also know that this may be an expensive time of year because of everything you want to get done both inside and outside of your home. So, if you love spring just as much as we do, then stick around for some of the best tips to prepare your home for spring.
1. Keep Your Pipes Protected
Winter storms and freezing temperatures most likely left some of the pipes in your home with damage. You may have realized a recent leak as the warmer weather caused your pipes to unfreeze. What should you do now? In order to fix them, it is nice and simple, just apply a foam layer over them otherwise known as “lagging.” If there is excessive damage be sure to see one of our previous blog posts about pipe burst damage to learn exactly how to fix the damage!
To fix them you need to have a foam layer (known as lagging) applied on their surface.
2. Clean Your Gutters To Prepare For Spring
This is probably one of the more annoying spring-cleaning tasks you should put on the top of your list. All the junk from trees, falling debris, leaves, etc. needs to go! If you grab a garden hose you can get out mostly everything blocking your gutters in no time. In some cases, drainpipes from your gutter may be clogged, too. This is especially important to clean as soon as possible as the junk can damage your pipes from the inevitable spring rain.

3. Check Your Roof For Any Damages
Also while you are up cleaning the gutters mind as well check on the roof right? During the winter some storms or even snow may have left their mark on your roof. Springtime, now that it’s getting warmer, is the perfect time to check any damages to shingles or the roof itself. It’s important to look for any signs of roof leak damage as it can cost you a lot of money to repair the damage in the long run if not properly taken care of.
4. Replace Filters In Your House
This is perhaps one of our most important tips to prepare your home for spring: replacing the filters in your house. Depending on the type of filter you have, they should last anywhere from 3-6 months. If you notice that they need to be changed, do not hesitate to do so. Any damaged or old filter can pose a health issue to you and your family. The filters that should be changed include water filters, range hood filters, and air vent filters. This is one of the most important ways to prepare your home for spring!

5. Clean Out Dryer Vents
This is another extremely important way to prepare your home for spring as it could save you from a dangerous house fire. A long winter and a lot of dirty clothes that were washed…well now it’s time to clean the dryer vent! Some homeowners may realize their clothes are not dried properly when taking them out. That is likely due to the fact that the vent is clogged! Once you clean out this vent you won’t have to worry about buildup for a while.

6. Check Foundation Vents
This wouldn’t be a tips to prepare your home for spring list if we didn’t include this tip. Foundation vents lead directly to your basement if you have one. If these have become clogged over the fall and winter seasons, this is the time to clean them! If you don’t clean these vents, mold could potentially grow in these spots. Bottom line replace the vents and take out any debris covering them.
7. Wash All Your Windows
This is more of an aesthetic choice but nothing we don’t recommend! Nobody likes looking at dirty windows but at the same time nobody really likes washing them. Trust us on this one, once you clean them thoroughly, they will look shiny and brand new in no time.
We hope you enjoyed these great tips to prepare your home for spring!
